Press release:

Quiksilver is proud to welcome Michael Dunphy to its Surf Team. The 24-year-old talent from Virginia Beach will now be riding for Quiksilver as he continues to advance his professional surfing career. The regular-footer has solid experience on the Qualifying Series and a couple of significant results under his belt already this year. After becoming the first Virginia Beach native to win the Vans Pro 4 star event in 33 years last year, Dunphy then posted an impressive back to back win at the WRV Outer Banks Pro in North Carolina.

A strong contender to join the World’s Top 32 surfers, Dunphy is currently ranked 13th in the world on the Qualifying Series. Following his QS quarterfinal finish at the Lowers Pro and his solid 9th place finish in the Burton Automotive Pro in Australia, Dunphy is in good position to make it to the top level of men’s elite surfing next year. However, Dunphy remains calm and acknowledges that making the Championship Tour has never been his end-all goal. He left home at the age of 16 and enjoys traveling and surfing more than anything. Anything else to know about the self-described “wandering surf gypsy”? He designs his own surfboard artwork, admires Andy Irons and lives by the motto: “What comes easy won’t always last, and what lasts won’t always come easy”.

“Quiksilver has always been one of my favorite brands and the one I’ve looked up to since I was a little kid,” says Dunphy.  “The surf products are so good! Now that I have this opportunity, I am super fired up to represent Quiksilver back home on the East Coast, as well as during my travels worldwide.”
