Press release:

Penny Skateboards today announced the launch of its latest and longest board. Adding to an already extensive range of premium plastic skateboards, the new 36” Penny Longboard offers a fresh riding style that won’t disappoint.

The Penny Longboard has been designed to embody the brand’s intrinsic values of fun, freedom and escapism. Penny Skateboards, at its core, is about making skateboarding accessible to all and the 36” Longboard provides a new style of Penny boarding.

Penny Skateboards founder Ben Mackay says, “As a skater, I want to ride a unique longboard; one that handles completely different from all others on the market; and we certainly couldn’t ignore the growing Penny community, who have been asking for a longboard for quite some time. So, it made perfect sense for us to innovate, by designing and developing the first Penny Longboard. I’m super stoked with the result!”

The Penny Longboard has been developed in response to recent research findings[i], which ranked ‘new size’ as the number one reason skaters would purchase a Penny Skateboard. The research also found 44.8 per cent of those who own a second skateboard ride a longboard for cruising, while 22.5 per cent ride a longboard for downhill.

Showcasing the Penny Longboard as an experience, the launch campaign #escapethere #skatethere highlights the diversity, fun and freedom of four styles of longboarding, and how they can help everyone to escape the daily grind; whether that is cruising along a beach, urban street skating at pace, transit skating through parks and along pavements, or cruising downhill with friends.

The campaign aligns with results of a recent study[ii], which indicate young people are holding off buying big ticket items in favour of saving for lifestyle experiences, such as travel. The study highlights the growing millennial trend of ‘collecting moments not things’, with 78 per cent of those surveyed choosing to spend money on desirable experiences and 72 per cent looking to ‘move away from materialism’ in 2015.

Supported by the #escapethere #skatethere social media campaign and consumer promotion to win a $10,000 travel voucher, the launch in July aims to engage a wider demographic of young, dynamic adventure seekers, rounding out the brand’s offering of fun, carefree lifestyle products.

About the Penny Longboard

The 36” pintail style longboard uniquely features a half inch camber through the length of the deck, which works in collaboration with the board’s natural flex, inbuilt riser pads and side to side concave to enhance ride-ability. A reformulated and reinforced secret plastic formula for extra strength, and reverse Kingpin 7 inch (180mm) aluminium powder-coated trucks, also offer more stability and greater response. Premium Abec 9 V-channel design stainless steel bearings with German lubricant and 83A wheels allow for an even smoother, more stable and relaxing ride, providing the perfect way to #escapethere.

The new Penny Skateboards Longboard collection will be available in six classic colour options, with colour coded bearings, cushions and high tensile bolts, launching online 8th July 2015 at www.pennyskateboards.com and available from 3rd August 2015 in local surf and skate shops.  MSRP US$160.00
