We are catching up on the news that longtime industry retail buyer Bobby Goodwin has moved from PacSun to competitor Tilly’s.
Bobby has a newly created role at Tilly’s – Senior Vice President of Men’s Fashion, Hardgoods and Boys’ Apparel. What’s especially intriguing about that title is the mention of hardgoods, which has not been a significant category for Tilly’s in the past.
Bobby is well known in the industry, having worked with many brands during his long tenure at the skateboard-focused Active Ride Shop early in his career. He then moved to PacSun, where he worked for nearly a decade, rising to the position of Vice President of Men’s Merchandising. PacSun, of course, has evolved into much more of a fashion player over the years rather than strictly an action sports retailer.
We reached out to Tricia Smith, Tilly’s EVP and Chief Merchandising Officer, to find why Tilly’s has brought Bobby on board.
“Bobby’s experience, background and strong reputation in the industry made him a perfect addition to our team,” Tricia said via email. “He has been able to make incredible contributions in a short period of time. He is establishing our evolved positioning in men’s fashion, along with further developing the hardgoods category which we launched online in February of this year, rolling out in stores now. He has also brought on some great new team members, further expanding our expertise and fantastic team. We are excited to have him on board!”
