Body Glove has been acquired by Marquee Brands, a brand acquisition and licensing firm based in New York that is backed by private equity.
The purchase price was not disclosed.
Marquee recently bought luxury brand Bruno Magli and fashion brand Ben Sherman and has a goal of buying eight to 12 brands for its portfolio, according to a story in WWD.
Michael DeVirgilio, president of Marquee, told WWD that he liked Body Glove, which operates with a licensing model, because of its diversity of products and the diversity of channels that it operates in.
Marquee plans to develop a retail strategy for Body Glove, including opening a flagship store. DeVirgilio also said an obvious extension for Body Glove would be into the snowboarding market.
According to WWD the Meistrell family will maintain a minority ownership in the company.
Marquee will open a West Coast office to work with Body Glove’s brand management and marketing teams in Redondo Beach.
