Deckers told the Sanuk staff today that it is moving the brand from Irvine to the Deckers headquarters in Goleta, SES has confirmed.
A Deckers spokeswoman sent us the following statement after we inquired about the changes.
“Today, Deckers let the Sanuk employees know that we have made the decision to move the brand to Santa Barbara (Goleta). We believe this will streamline brand operations and reduce infrastructure costs.
“By moving the brand to the corporate headquarters, the brand will be able to leverage our back-end resources more efficiently.”
Many of Sanuk’s key employees live in Orange County and even San Diego, and it is unclear who will be moving north. We are told that the Sanuk offices in Irvine will be closed as of March 31.
The company did not respond when asked whether Jake Brandman is still Sanuk’s President.
Sanuk, which Deckers acquired in 2011, has been struggling lately and not meeting its targets. Sanuk’s sales declined in the two most recently reported quarters, 7% and 9%.
In 2015, Sanuk revenue grew 13.1% to $114.7 million, according to Deckers. Originally, Sanuk had been forecast to grow 11% in 2016, though that number has been revised.
