An important category that has been weak for Zumiez for more than two years recorded a positive comp in September.
Footwear, in fact, was the only positive category at Zumiez for the month.
Footwear is a big category at Zumiez, accounting for 19% of total sales in 2014.
The company has been trying to figure out the right merchandise mix given that the current athletic trend does not play into its strengths. Zumiez did not disclose figures for its footwear comp.
Overall, Zumiez’s same-store sales declined 1.8% in September.
Hardgoods, men’s, accessories and junior’s all reported weak results.
So far in the third quarter, same-store sales are down 7%.
Year-to-date, same-store sales have declined 2.9%.
Zumiez operates 646 stores, including 580 in the United States, 42 in Canada, and 24 in Europe.
Zumiez stock is up 10% in trading this morning to $18.77.
