Important industry footwear company Journeys is one mall-based retailer that appears to have outperformed competitors this holiday season.
Quarter-to-date through Jan. 2, Journeys comparable sales in total rose 7%, parent company Genesco reported today.
Store comps increased 6% during that time frame, and direct comps jumped 21%.
Genesco’s UK-based retailer Schuh, also an industry customer, is having a tougher time, however.
Total Schuh comps quarter to date are down 2%, with stores down 5% and direct comps up 9%.
Troubles at Schuh, and even more so, continuing challenges at Genesco’s Lids Sports Group, caused the company to lower its earnings guidance for the year.
