Dan McNamara, formerly of Mervin Manufacturing, has moved to Pyzel Surfboards as the new CEO.
Formerly Dan was the Chief Commercial Officer at Mervin, which manufactures a wide range of products in the U.S. including snowboards, skis, surfboards and skateboards.
We asked Dan for some background information on Pyzel and the current state of the business there.
Here is the information he provided.
“Pyzel is based on the North Shore of Oahu and was founded by Jon and Dali Pyzel in 1996. Jon began shaping custom boards for John John Florence when he was just 5 years old and he has been riding Pyzels ever since, including in his iconic Eddie Aikau win and throughout his entire WCT tour career where he has won two back to back WSL Championship titles.
“Two years ago, Pyzel opened up a second factory in Oceanside, California to help to meet the growing demand for their boards both in the mainland U.S. and internationally.
“I will be primarily based out of the Oceanside office and will travel to Hawaii regularly. I spent last week in the factory on the North Shore and was extremely stoked on seeing the whole operation and to be able to witness the excitement of the North Shore after John John’s win firsthand and to meet the whole crew making it happen in Hawaii.
“Recently business has been growing at a rapid pace due to both John John’s performance on tour as well as the growing popularity of the flagship lineup of Pyzel models such as The Ghost, The Radius, which won the 2017 Stab in the Dark contest with Jordy Smith, and the upcoming Phantom model that is dropping officially in early 2018.
“With all of the growth that has happened and the growth to come, this is a great opportunity to help build one of the most respected brands in surfing and to give more people around the world the opportunity to get on a Pyzel.
“Jon and Dali and their whole team have been great in welcoming me to the crew and I am looking forward to working with them into the future.”
