As we near the end of 2025, SESO reached out to a wide range of industry leaders for their reflections on an unpredictable year, and what they are focused on for 2026.
Lindsay Shumlas was promoted from the CFO and COO role to CEO of Salt Lake City-based Cotopaxi in December 2024 after a difficult period for the brand, which included downsizing its workforce. This year, after bringing on a new marketing, product strategy, and business development team, the company launched a dedicated resale program and partnered with Snow Peak on pop-up shops in urban centers.
Shumlas shared what she’s prioritizing and what she’s optimistic about in the coming year.
What are your greatest concerns looking ahead to 2026?
Cotopaxi CEO Lindsay Shumlas: I’m not approaching 2026 from a place of concern so much as a sense of urgency and opportunity. The pace of change in our industry is real, and it’s pushing all of us to be sharper and more focused on what truly matters.
Our priority is ensuring our teams stay aligned, efficient, and connected so we can move with speed and conviction. When we’re unified and listen closely to our community, we can make the tough decisions that strengthen the brand and position us for long-term success.
What are you investing in or optimistic about for 2026?
Lindsay Shumlas: I’m incredibly optimistic about the momentum we’re carrying into 2026. We’re investing in deeper community connection, more intentional customer engagement, and an internal structure that allows us to move faster and collaborate better.
We’re also doubling down on what makes Cotopaxi truly special, from colorful designs, meaningful impact, and a team that believes deeply in doing good work. My optimism comes from knowing we have the right people, the right purpose, and the right focus to make 2026 a year of clarity, creativity, and growth.
