Industry retailer evo announced this morning that it is expanding its hospitality business by acquiring the Journeyman Lodge in British Columbia.

Journeyman Lodge is located 90 minutes north of Vancouver and 20 minutes south of Whistler Village. The 5,000-squre-foot lodge accommodates 24 guests and is surrounded by thousands of miles of groomed ski, snowshoe and hiking trails.

Callaghan Country Wilderness Adventures, which is being acquired by evo and owns the Journeyman, co-manages 18,000 acres surrounding the lodge with the Province of BC for the purpose of outdoor recreation.

Callaghan Country President Brad Sills said he is confident about the company changing hands.

“It’s based on shared values that the companies have, including respect for the communities that we live in and work in,” Sills said in a statement. “I really look forward to working with Bryce (evo CEO Bryce Phillips) and his team in the coming years.”

SES asked Bryce a few questions about the deal.

Why buy Journeyman Lodge?

Evo CEO Bryce Phillips: We are continuing to round out the evo offering and specifically, extraordinary experiences that we can bring to our customers. Specific to The Journeyman, the place itself is absolutely stunning and a Sea to Sky Corridor bullseye, located directly between Squamish and Whistler.

Ski touring, split-boarding, Nordic skiing, outdoor and backcountry education all will be central as we look to engage both the local community and tourists that make their way to British Columbia. We are very grateful to have the opportunity to carry the torch forward, building upon the vision of Brad Sills and his team.

How will it be integrated into the evo ecosystem?

Bryce Phillips: We have five locations in Whistler, a North American web presence and our evoTrip adventure travel business. The Journeyman is a natural extension of what we already have in motion with regards to the interconnected businesses that work together to make the evo ecosystem.

While we have work to do on the backend, imagine learning about the Journeyman while in our evo Backcountry store in Whistler or signing up for a ski touring/split-boarding trip that we base out of our lodge.

There are so many ways in which we can stitch this seamlessly into the integrated customer experience that spans across multiple digital and 3-D touch-points.

Any more acquisitions on the horizon?

Bryce Phillips: 🙂
