We have some exciting news to share today. Shop Eat Surf is joining forces with The Daily by Outdoor Retailer to create an expanded platform for the active outdoor industry – Shop Eat Surf Outdoor.
The new site will provide coverage of leading brands and retailers in outdoor, surf, snow, swim, active, and lifestyle, with in-depth analysis of market trends and interviews with top executives shaping the future of these industries.
Some backstory behind the merger: For the past two years, in addition to overseeing Shop Eat Surf, I have also been in charge of editorial strategy for The Daily by Outdoor Retailer. It soon became apparent that the two worlds increasingly overlap, and executives and retailers in both spaces are grappling with similar issues — balancing DTC and wholesale strategies, keeping specialty retail special, navigating growth in a post-COVID world, and driving sustainability and innovation to stay ahead.
I also saw many similarities between and among the people who work in the outdoor and surf industries, whether they are retailers or brand executives. The brands and stores in both spaces were founded by people who are passionate about their sports and pursuits in the outdoors, whether in the ocean or on land, and found a way to make a living pursuing those passions.
Our goal with Shop Eat Surf Outdoor is to focus our editorial efforts on one site to provide a richer B2B report that can inform readers’ business decisions and allow them to learn from others who are experiencing both challenges and successes.
The stories will be a mix of free and paywalled articles, which you can access as part of our Executive Edition membership. As always, in addition to producing journalism about business strategies and trends, we’ll also profile the personalities and decision-makers at heritage and emerging brands alike.
