Urban Outfitters Inc. is launching a clothing rental service, according to a story in the Wall Street Journal Tuesday.
The new company will be a separate entity called Nuuly and will be run by Urban’s Chief Digital Officer David Hayne, the son of CEO Richard Hayne.
Customers will be able to rent up to six items for $88 per month and must keep them for the full month to get six more.
Shoppers can pick items from all the company’s chains – Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie and Free People – as well as vintage pieces and pieces from outside brands.
Nuuly is trying to follow in the footsteps of the popular Rent the Runway business, which focuses more on designer labels and offers customers more flexibility. With some plans, Rent the Runway customers can exchange garments an unlimited number of times throughout the month.
