Nixon partnered with the estate of the late rapper Tupac Shakur for the first time in a watch collaboration that launched Tuesday.
“We approached this project differently from other collaborations,” Nixon Vice President of Product Joanne Sessler said in a statement on the collection. “(The project is) exciting creatively, and (comes with) daunting responsibility to best honor his legacy.”
Sessler went on to say the Carlsbad, California-based company poured through photos, writings, and music for help in designing the five-piece collection.
“We were fortunate to attend the L.A. exhibit of ‘Wake Me When I’m Free,’ where we witnessed the raw creativity of (Shakur’s) journals, the love for his mother, joys and struggles, and message to the world,” Sessler said.
The limited-edition collection, which the company said was well received by retailers in pre-booking, will be sold through Nixon’s online shop and several retail partners, spanning both chains and specialty stores. Distribution includes Zumiez, Tilly’s, Zappos, CCS, Empire, Foursight, and The Room.
The collection starts at $175 for the 2Pac Time Teller, which touts a custom bandana pattern, all the way up to $600 for the 2Pac 51-30, an oversized watch style with a gold rose design.
