adidas Skateboarding proudly celebrates 20 years of partnership with legendary Pro skateboarder and globally renowned artist Mark Gonzales with the release of the Aloha Super. The signature Aloha Super was inspired by an adiStar Fencing shoe worn during Gonzales’ historic 1998 performance piece at Städtisches Museum in Abteiberg, Germany.
The original performance, which bridged the gap between skateboarding and fine art, was a collaborative project with skater and artist, Johannes Wohnseifer. Sporting a fencing suit with the word ‘Aloha’ emblazoned on his back— a nod to skateboarding’s roots in surf—Gonzales gave an avant garde performance utilizing custom-designed obstacles to an unexpecting audience.
Twenty years later at adidas Skateboarding’s Showcase X in New York City, Gonzales took to a new set of custom built features in his iconic fencing suit. The reinterpretation was an extension of his original performance as well as the unveiling of Gonzales’ new Aloha Super.
Constructed for skateboarding, the Aloha Super features elements of the adiStar Fencing shoe with exaggerated black stripes on a stylish neutral palette with textured foxing. A combination nubuck and leather upper with a reinforced leather tongue top, heel, and eyestays, deliver on premium durability and extended wear.
The Aloha Super will be available at select specialty retailers worldwide and the adidas Skateboarding website starting August 18. The Aloha Super will retail for $90 USD.
