For their latest collaboration, designer Todd Snyder and legendary surf brand Birdwell Beach Britches have created a capsule that includes the swim trunks, trousers, shorts and suits that are the perfect wardrobe for a day that begins in the ocean and ends with a beach wedding. The suits, trousers and shorts are made from Italian linen. The swim trunks, based on Birdwell’s iconic 310 board short silhouette, are handmade from SurfNyl, a proprietary, naturally water-repellent nylon. The nylon has been finished in an exclusive Vintage Wash; replicating 30-40 years of natural wear in and out of the water, creating a soft sueded hand feel and a rich patina. The result is that the board shorts have a lived- in feel and a broken-in look from the first wear.
“We were meeting with the Birdwell creative team, and they really liked our suits and sportcoats, so the collection started with the image of a guy surfing in the morning and then going to a beach wedding later that day,” says Snyder. “The great thing about a beach wedding is you can wear a casual suit, linen shorts or swim trunks and a sportcoat.”
In addition to the unique Vintage Wash, the swim trunks have a number of exclusive design details including a patch on the wearer’s lower right leg that reads “TS NY Surf Local” with a graphic outline of New York State. Authentic Birdwell details include the button fly, drawstring adjustable closure and a back pocket with a key keeper.
The TS x Birdwell Linen Suits are based on Snyder’s Madison Suit silhouette, which features a drawstring trouser with an elastic waist and a soft-tailored suit jacket. The Madison Suit Jacket has a natural shoulder, a slightly nipped waist, patch pockets and a double vent. The result is a suit that is both sartorial and nonchalant at the same time.
The collection launches June 16th at 10AM ET and will be available on toddsnyder.com, birdwell.com and Todd Snyder’s newly opened Rockefeller Center store.
THE TS X BIRDWELL 310 BOARD SHORT
Based on Birdwell’s iconic 310 board short silhouette, these are a mash-up of camo and other swim short patterns. They are finished in Vintage Wash (replicating 30-40 years of natural wear) and feature a patch on the wearer’s lower right leg that reads “TS NY Surf Local” with a graphic outline of New York State. This style is a slightly modernized take of the original silhouette that Carrie Birdwell Mann made in 1961 when she transformed her small southern California home into a sewing room and store, launching Birdwell Beach Britches. And it reflects over more than 50 years of field testing by lifeguards and surfers who depend on their Birdies to last a lifetime of waves.

A centerpiece of that is our Traveler Suit in a luxe Italian linen. The silhouette of the short is based on Birdwell’s iconic board short complete with a button fly and drawstring closure. They are made from the same fabric as The Linen Traveler Suit Jacket, and we can’t think of a better way to ace the dress code when the dress code calls for Beach Formal than by combining the two into a short suit A quick note on fit: The shorts run on the trim side, so we would recommend sizing up.
