After multiple years of design and testing, 686 Technical Apparel announces the launch of their GLCR Multi Jacket. This lightweight, packable and highly versatile jacket is being touted as the “quiver killer” – a single jacket that can seamlessly transition between seasons, sports and locations.
The concept for the GLCR Multi jacket was born out of 686 Founder, Michael Akira West, and the 686 GLCR professional team’s needs as they travel the globe in search of inspiration and adventure – a singular jacket that can be used in a wide variety of activities from the top of the mountain in winter to the urban city centers during the rainy season and everywhere in between.
“This is a jacket I will have for the next 10 years,” explains West. “When I climbed Mt Kilamanjaro years ago, I designed a shell that would be versatile enough for the climb as well as the rest of my travels.” Out of that prototype, the Multi concept was born.
West continues, “It’s been incredible to see where the team has already taken this jacket. It’s been deep into winter via snowmobile, touring and splitboarding, through rainstorms on foot and bike (both mtb and commuter) in the Southern California, the Pacific Northwest, and Tokyo as well as camping and hiking through Yosemite.”
The GLCR Multi’s performance driven design is well thought out, with every detail perfectly placed to play its role. 2-Layer GORE-TEX® Paclite® fabric and fully seasled seams ensure the Multi passes Gore’s strict rain testing while remaining lightweight and packable. Merino wool around the back of the neck and chinflap provide the ultimate in thermoregulation, moisture wicking and natural anti-microbial properties in the area where your jacket is likely to touch your skin the most. The unique removable “Cross Strap System” allows the wearer to remove the jacket without having to pack it away, however if you do want to pack it, the Multi weighs a mere 16 oz. and comes with its own stuff sack. 686’s “Articulated Slim” fit is close to the body but leaves enough room for layering, making it a packable jacket that can still travel deep into winter. Large 2-way YKK Aquaguard zippers provide access to backpack friendly micromesh chest pockets that double as chest vents. Each pocket contains another storage pocket also made of micromesh to ensure maximum active or passive venting.
The GLCR Multi Jacket is 686’s first foray into a Spring product launch since 2012. With the positive response the GLCR Multi jacket has been getting, we look forward to further seasons from 686.
