Published: November 14, 2016 Press Release

Last night, adidas Skateboarding continued its celebration of the 10-year anniversary of a longstanding partnership with powerhouse skateboarder Dennis Busenitz. Paying homage to the pioneering skateboarder, adidas Skateboarding launched a global salute with events in cities like Tokyo, Sydney, Mexico City, Munich and New York City. To commemorate the anniversary, adidas Skateboarding unveiled Up To Speed – The Story of Dennis Busenitz short-form documentary which offers a rare glimpse into the life and legacy of Dennis Busenitz.

Kicking off the global celebration in Tokyo, team members including: Mark ‘Gonz’ Gonzales, Miles Silvas, Na-kel Smith, Blondey, Nestor Judkins, Jake Donnelly, Rodrigo TX and Dennis Busenitz, were invited to a one-night only archival installation profiling artifacts from early years of Dennis Busenitz’ career. Also part of the activation, iconic Busenitz franchise silhouettes created as illustrations were on display and the artist also prepared a portrait of Dennis Busenitz during the event.

Moving the celebration to New York City, adidas Skateboarding hosted influential skate media and long-time supporters of Dennis Busenitz at a reimagined Bavarian pub in the Lower East Side neighborhood. The event served as the official screening  of the Up to Speed – The Story of Dennis Busenitz short-form documentary, a weekend exclusive with Thrasher Magazine.

Up to Speed gives a rare and intimate glimpse into the life of Busenitz. Busenitz was born in Munich, Germany, lived his formative years in Newton, Kansas and later made his way to San Francisco, California where he honed his skills into a skateboarding icon that led to a groundbreaking partnership with adidas Skateboarding. Upcoming global premiere events includes stops in Mexico City, Sydney and Munich.

Over the past three months, adidas Skateboarding released a 10-year anniversary shoe pack featuring three styles accented with the Busenitz franchise design language. Teaming up in 2006, Dennis Busenitz’s signature Busenitz Pro sneaker design was the anchor for the entire program with adidas Skateboarding. This alliance, which has set a new standard of excellence for athlete-led partnerships within skate, has become a global phenomenon delivering on a family of staple and iconic skate sneaker models from the Busenitz Pro and VULC to the ADV and Pure Boost Pro.

Up to Speed is now available to the public beginning on adidas Skateboarding’s Youtube channel www.youtube.com/user/adidasSkateboarding.
