2016 promises to be the best year yet for Sun Diego’s annual Am Slam Surf Contest Series! First is the expansion of the contest to two full days so all competitors will have more time. Saturdays will be strictly for the Pro/Am division and Sundays will be for the amateur divisions. The Pro division will now feature 20 minute heats instead of 15 minute heats from previous years. For the groms, it equates to more surf time on Sundays and the ability to grow those amateur divisions. Sun Diego has also expanded the contest to South Orange County this year and have included San Clemente Pier as the 3rd stop on this years series.
There will also be some exciting new features this year including live scoring updates for all Pro heats. This year will also boast a fully integrated surfers lounge with couches, umbrellas, and a place for the competitors to stash their boards while getting some food or taking a break. Groms will have a full family day including beach games and giveaways all day.
More cash and prizes! Sun Diego and their supporting sponsors stepped it up again! Prize purses for the pros is now up to $4000 for each event with $2200 to the winner and cash going out to all four of the finalists. For the Amateurs, the prize packs for this year will be even bigger and better!
This summer is definitely going to be a Slam with Sun Diego and O’neill getting it fired up! There will be four contests this season:
June 11-12th – PB Drive ($4,000 prize purse)
July 30-31st – OB Pier ($4,000 prize purse)
August 27-28th – San Clemente Pier ($4,000 prize purse)
September 24-25th – Mission Beach ($6,000 prize purse)
Saturday’s: Pro/Am Division Sunday’s: Boys (13 and under) Juniors (14-16) Women’s, Men’s (17 and up)
The last event of the series will be the largest this year. It will be a huge, two day surf and skate festival with a huge vendor tent city, and six grand up for grabs! It will be double points rated with the Pro/Am division running all day Saturday and the Boys, Juniors, Women’s, and Men’s divisions running on Sunday.
Along with the increased prize money for each event this year, our overall Pro/Am winner of the series will be taking home $5,000!
There are Five Point Rated divisions in all :
Boys (13 and under)
Juniors (14-16)
Women’s
Men’s (17 and up)
Pro/Am (open)
Amateur divisions are $30
Pro division is $100
All amateur divisions will have 6 man, 15 min. heats
Pro/Am division will have 4 man, 20 min, heats
Points will be accumulated per event surfed and the final event of the season will be double points rated! With over $20,000 in series prize money up for grabs, anything could happen!

WHAT IS THE SUN DIEGO AM SLAM?
The Am Slam is an amateur surf contest series, designed to give local surfers the opportunity to compete in and excel. Although there will be some great prizes and trophies given out to top placing surfers at each stop, the overall winners of the Pro-Am divison will be the ones who will take home the CA$H and the title of SUN DIEGO’S 2016 AM SLAM SURF SERIES CHAMPION!
Anyone can enter the Pro/Am Division if you think you have the skills. The Pro/Am awards cash instead of prizes! Keep in mind, your accumulated points will remain within your division, so if you decide to enter your age division AND the Pro/Am Division, it is perfectly legal, but your points from the 2 Divisions are not added together.
HOW DO I REGISTER?
It is strongly recommended for all participants to pre-register at sundiego.com, as spacei is very limited.  Iff there is still room left in a division on the day of the contest, contestants may be able to register on-site the day of the event. However, pre-registering on the Sundiego.com website is the best bet for getting in the contest as there are a very limited amount of spots per division.

Am divisions are $30 and it’s $100 for the Pro-Am.
