The votes are in and Ryan Sheckler and the Sheckler Foundation are proud to announce COPING MECHANISM – Coping for DIY Skatepark in New Orleans as its seventh “Be the Change” winner. As the recipient, COPING MECHANISM will receive a $10,000 financial grant and support from the Sheckler Foundation to continue building the first public skatepark in New Orleans’ history.
Pro Skateboarder and Sheckler Foundation Co-Founder Ryan Sheckler says, “Thank you to all the supportive individuals who participated in this initiative from submitting entries, voting and rallying with us here at the Sheckler Foundation! Congratulations COPING MECHANISM on becoming our 7th ‘Be the Change’ recipient, we’re stoked to support and help build Parisite DIY Skatepark in New Orleans!”
It’s taken COPING MECHANISM two years to get Parisite DIY Skatepark legalized but now it’s New Orleans’ first public skatepark– designed, built and run by skateboarders. All the permits are in place for its next build and now COPING MECHANISM needs help with a crucial part of the skatepark: the coping. Parisite DIY Skatepark is using pool coping because of its affordability, but the coping has taken a beating, creating an unsafe condition that’s almost impossible to fix.
With a $10,000 financial grant and support from the Sheckler Foundation, COPING MECHANISM will implement quality steel coping, steel handrails, angle irons and complete other metal work to create a public skatepark in New Orleans that will last for decades.
Ryan Sheckler’s “Be the Change” initiative was created to help injured action sports athletes and children in need.
