Since 1979, Dakine has made surf leashes that help protect surfers and their boards.
It all started with founder Rob Kaplan designing a leash that would withstand the waves of the North Shore of Maui. From listening to his friends and pro surfers feedback, to attaching leashes to the back of his truck and a tree and hitting the gas, Rob’s process created leashes built for the heaviest of Hawaiian waters.
For Spring/Summer 2017, Dakine brings the Pe’ahi Leash (MSRP $70.00) to those looking to battle the 24’ and beyond waves.
Until recently the only way to get a Pe’ahi (aka Jaws) leash was to be gifted one on the cliffs of Haiku-Pauwela in preparation to paddle into one of the biggest waves on earth.
The world’s first and only 7/16″ (11mm) leash measuring 12’ long is comprised of the highest quality urethane Dura-Cord for maximum strength with 100% marine grade stainless steel swivels. This is combined with a 2” (50mm) triple wrap ankle cuff with Easy Clip release pin for maximum safety.
For those not looking to battle Jaws, Dakine also offers a completely redesigned range of surf leashes including its Pro Comp series (0-4’ wave size), Kainu Team series (5-8’ swells), Kainui series (6-10’ surf) and the Kainui Big Wave series (the go-to leash for 8-15’ waves).
Reflecting 37 years of dedication to leash innovation and craftsmanship, the updated range includes their most durable and flexible leash-end yet, combined with the latest maximum strength Dura-Cord. This paired with a new lightweight molded neoprene cuff for increased comfort, plus a bomber posi-lock closure, has resulted in Dakine’s most performance-driven and quality leashes yet.
The new Pe’Ahi Leash, along with Dakine’s complete collection of leashes, traction, board bags and accessories will be available at speciality retailers and online at dakine.com beginning mid January 2017.
