The non-profit Surfing Heritage and Culture Center has appointed Glenn Brumage as its new Executive Director, the Board of Directors announced today.

“As Surfing Heritage and Culture Center (SHACC) has matured, improved its programming and community engagement, the Board of Directors recognizes the need for new leadership that will facilitate the necessary evolution and elevation of the organization.” said Denny Michael, President of SHACC.

“Glenn has stepped up to prove himself a driven and competent leader, especially over the last year. We couldn’t have asked for a better trial period than his three-year tenure on the board of directors and his leadership as president.” reported founder Dick Metz.

Brumage stepped down from his position as Board Chair in order to accept the position of Executive Director. His professional career has spanned 40 years in executive management of boardsports companies. For ten years, he has been driving the development of surfing in China and runs the annual “Silver Dragon” professional surf contest in Hangzhou. Most recently, he has been consulting for businesses and mentoring young entrepreneurs. He also serves on the board of the International Association of Skateboard Companies.

“Surfing is my passion” says Mr. Brumage. “While I come from a business background, I’ve served on two non-profit boards of directors, and as President of SHACC’s board. I understand the differences as well as similarities between commercial and non-profit management. I sincerely look forward to sharing the importance of surfing history and surf culture with future generations.”

Surfing Heritage and Culture Center is a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization that exists at the intersection of surfing’s past, present and future. SHACC houses the world’s most important and authoritative archive of surfing artifacts, surfboards, memorabilia and scholarly works. Our collection comes from all corners of the globe, and reflects the spirit of exploration and adventure that is core to surfing’s ethos. Our educational programs and events focus on bringing surfing’s stories to the world.

Through it all we celebrate what it means to be a surfer, and why surfing has captured hearts and minds since the first time someone rode a wave.
