Etnies is putting the spotlight on team rider, Ryan Lay’s “Skate After School” program.

Published: June 21, 2016 Press Release

Today, etnies is excited to celebrate Go Skateboarding Day by putting the spotlight on team rider, Ryan Lay’s “Skate After School” program. “Skate After School” is a non-profit after school program dedicated to providing skateboard instruction to the underprivileged youth of Phoenix, Arizona. Last week, the Woodward Scholarship Program partnered with “Skate After School” by sending four underserved youth from the program to experience a trip to the world-renowned state of the art skateboard camp, Woodward West in Tehachapi, California. Each student was chosen based on their academic achievements in the 2015-2016 year, their passion for skateboarding, and for their diverse cultural backgrounds that they bring to “Skate After School”. “Ryan’s ‘Skate After School’ program embodies what Go Skateboarding Day is all about – promoting and raising awareness in skateboarding,“ said etnies VP, James Appleby. “Skateboarding not only brings people together from different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds, but it also doesn’t discriminate. He supports the skateboarding community by paying it forward to future generations and we back that.”

When Ryan isn’t stacking clips and working on upcoming video parts, he manages his non-profit “Skate After School” program to allow students the chance to actively partake in skateboarding. What started as a small community project between a couple of friends has grown into a full-fledged non-profit with an expansive volunteer network as well as a board of directors spanning from the education, child welfare and skateboard world. Every Day, Ryan is humbled by the opportunity to be a part of an organization that continues to have such an indelible impact in the city in which he grew up in. “Skate After School” is so much more than just an individual effort. It is the product of continuous hard work of an entire community.
