Southern California, (September 2015)— Katin, the original California surf company and lifestyle brand, is excited to announce the release of its Fall/Holiday ’15 “Rise & Shine” collection, influenced by Katin seamstress Sato Hughes and her Japanese heritage, as well as Katin’s birth at the Kanvas By Katin shop in Surfside, Calif.

The “Rise & Shine”collection beautifully infuses historic surf culture with classic Japanese heritage through woven shades of blue and green complemented by beige and brown, in company with hues of deep purple, plum and indigo. In designing the physical structure of the garments, Katin creative director Jason Rodriguez drew inspiration directly from Hughes, her dedicated work ethic and her unrelenting passion for constructing the iconic Katin surf trunks, since 1961.

“How Sato constructs a garment, what she means to the brand, and just truly paying homage through this collection to her as well as founders Nancy and Walter Katin,” Rodriguez said.

Rodriguez also sought the influence of the rare and celebrated elements from Japanese culture, from the brown and beige hues of the harvesting rice fields to the Japanese motif crane patterns to the bonsai tree-inspired graphics.

Katin’s Fall/Holiday ’15 collection is now available online at katinusa.com as well national retailers and better boutiques nationwide.

ABOUT KATIN:

In the early 1950’s Nancy and Walter Katin were in the business of making canvas boat covers. It was upon request from local surfers that they made the first pair of custom canvas surf trunks. Word quickly spread of their ability to withstand the demands of the sea and an industry was born. In 1977, Nancy initiated the annual Katin Pro/Am Team Challenge at the north side of Huntington Beach’s pier, a team event where amateur surfers can compete alongside the pros. Surf legends such as Kelly Slater and Tom Curren have won the Katin Pro/Am. Nancy passed away in 1986, leaving the company to Sato Hughes, her loyal seamstress. Katin continues to take pride in its title as one of California’s first brands to make surf trunks and continues its commitment to selling high-quality, durable goods, both with the iconic surf board shorts and lifestyle apparel, with the same gracious, mellow-hearted attitude since 1954. www.katinusa.com.
