Continuing to pay homage to Katin’s classic surf history, Katin and Australian retailer, SurfStitch, strategically created a collaborative collection modeled directly after the original surf trunk designs and the iconic 1960’s Katin “K-Man” graphic.
The classic Katin “K-Man” was originally drawn by a young, local surfer who hung out at the Kanvas by Katin shop in the 60s and 70s. The “K-Man” design soon became an instant favorite and Katin started using the graphic for their sewn-on surf trunk patches and t-shirts.
For this collection, we wanted to re-create that same legendary “K-Man” design atop contemporary clothing silhouettes in company with fresh cuts and new patterns.
This limited-edition Katin x SurfStitch Collection of custom surf trunks and dad hats is available online now at katinusa.com, and you can shop the entire collection of trunks, graphic tees and hats all online at surfstitch.com.
ABOUT KATIN:
In the early 1950’s Nancy and Walter Katin were in the business of making canvas boat covers. It was upon request from local surfers that they made the first pair of custom canvas surf trunks. Word quickly spread of their ability to withstand the demands of the sea and an industry was born. In 1977, Nancy initiated the annual Katin Pro/Am Team Challenge at the north side of Huntington Beach’s pier, a team event where amateur surfers can compete alongside the pros. Surf legends such as Kelly Slater and Tom Curren have won the Katin Pro/Am. Nancy passed away in 1986, leaving the company to Sato Hughes, her loyal seamstress. Katin continues to take pride in its title as one of California’s first brands to make surf trunks and continues its commitment to selling high-quality, durable goods, both with the iconic surf board shorts and lifestyle apparel, with the same gracious, mellow-hearted attitude since 1954. www.katinusa.com.
