Surf shops are typically not newsworthy in Venice Beach, but Lone Wolfs Objets d’Surf is bringing a unique flair to Lincoln Boulevard.
Founders Scott Brown and Alex Kemp wanted to create a space that would combine their love of surf, art direction, music and cinema with their profession as music composers. Located in an old diving studio, this 434-sq.-ft. boutique surf shop also houses a recording studio in the back, called Wolf at the Door.
Lone Wolfs Objets d’Surf is for the art house cinema enthusiast plus surfer. The entire store is a showcase of only black and white boards, clothing and artwork.
With help from Venice-based VERDEGO Design, Lone Wolfs features a cool, punk rock aesthetic. The materials used throughout the space are simple and straightforward, complimenting the minimal black and white palette of the merchandise. Fixtures comprised of plywood, raw steel and black Europly cater to the attitude of the brand as a whole. Stacked plywood boxes house surf-inspired accouterments and allow for a modular, changeable display.
Inside the store, the customers can see into one of the recording studios as well as hear what the owners are working on.
The façade mirrors the bold but minimal graphic sensibility of Lone Wolfs with its colors and simple hand-painted signage. Custom wood and steel window displays allow customers to view their products almost as art pieces, while simultaneously giving them viewing access to the interior of the store.
