Nikita announced today that its Spring/Summer 2017 collection will be shown at AGENDA Long Beach this month, in addition to other national trade show appearances at Bright in Berlin, and the Know Show in Vancouver, BC. The SS17 collection offers a strong presentation of what Nikita has been known for since its inception: standout streetwear inspired by and inspiring skate and snow culture.
Nikita’s heritage is special: it’s the only by-female-for-female line born a generation ago and still thriving today, and that story resonates with today’s authenticity-seeking young consumer. Originally born to yield female-specific streetwear suitable for the skate park, the brand added a snowboard outerwear segment a few years later which continues to be a standout for female riders, and a commitment of the brand. Known for its “For Girls Who Ride” tagline, Nikita has evolved alongside its customer, still offering its timeless asymmetrical and free flow styles, putting out trend-setting but technical outerwear, and adding fashion-forward streetwear pieces that bridge the gap between stepping on and off a board and back into street culture.
Said Global Sales Director Dave Kozak , “The women’s apparel market is in an interesting and dynamic state. The influx of vertical, fast fashion retailers has made “fashion” more attainable than ever. However, meaningful brands with well-designed products and stories are quickly making up ground and consumers are taking notice. This shift in the market is creating great opportunities for brands like Nikita in the streetwear space. Our unique brand DNA inspires our year-round apparel lines and we couple that with a technically sound, fashion-driven outerwear collection each winter.”
New to the Nikita sales force is Jen Dillon, who previously sold brands like Billabong Women’s, Element Eden and Levi’s Skateboarding and Commuter lines. She will be focused on Western US sales for the Nikita streetwear category and providing best in class service to all Nikita accounts, while building the boutique and women’s wear distribution for the brand.
“Finding a rep with contacts in these channels to focus solely on Nikita streetwear was of the utmost importance to the strategic plan and I’m confident Jen will be able to deliver,” said Kozak.
The Spring/Summer 2017 line was inspired by the industrial sea trade, so the pieces reflect the industry and its elements in color: watery blue-greens, corals, rust-like clay, soft white, silver and gray, with saturated summery pops throughout. The all-over prints are reminiscent of textures and sea-industrial materials like rusting metals, frayed rope and netting.
Said Nikita Brand Director Stephie ter Huerne, “Our brand is special because we never take our queues from trends alone; we take our inspiration from our customer. We spend time with her, and we design the line around her and her activities. It’s how the brand has remained fresh and authentic in our 15+ years and will continue to remain relevant.”
The collection features Nikita’s signature layering pieces, some oversize silhouettes and a collection of tanks and tees featuring female artist-provided graphics. New this season are a bralette top and cropped tanks to offer more bottom layer opportunities.
The SS17 line also marks the first collection that was guided from concept to completion under new owners Pretty Great.
