San Onofre Situation Update – Town Hall Invite

An industry gathering of brands, retailers and media is scheduled for Oct. 5.

Published: September 17, 2017 Press Release

Do you know what’s going down at San Onofre?

DID YOU KNOW:

Southern California Edison is planning to bury 3.6 million pounds of radioactive waste 108 feet from the shoreline of San O and less than 3 feet above the water table?

 • This is the equivalent of 700 nuclear warheads
 • The containment unit is expected to be 5/8” thick
 • There are 2 fault lines 5 miles offshore at San O that are overdue for a 7.0+ earthquake

If you didn’t know about this, you’re not alone. This monumental decision seems to be sliding under the radar.

As surfers and residents of Southern California, and professionals whose business relies on the health of, and safe access to, our coasts, we should be aware, and perhaps curious, if not concerned, about how this came to be and what we can do about it.

Please join us for a meeting of the Tribes to make sure that you as a leader of the surf industry are aware of what’s going on at San O.

Why is this so dangerous? What makes this such a complex issue? What alternatives exist? What can we do about it?

This will be an informative town hall style meeting with a panel that includes: Surfrider Foundation, Public Watchdogs, San Clemente City Council and the Natural Resource Defense Council

Sponsorship: We are a collective of concerned industry citizens. We are asking that all brands sponsor a $250 cover charge to host 5 people

WHAT YOU DO MAKES A DIFFERENCE, YOU DECIDE WHAT TYPE OF DIFFERENCE YOU WANT TO MAKE.
