Spyder Surf Expo Launches in Hermosa Saturday

First Annual Hermosa Beach Surf Expo Presented by Spyder Surfboards comes to Hermosa Beach Pier Plaza August 20 2016

Live demonstrations on how a surfboard is built, Interactive booths with top Surfboard material Vendors live Music and much more.

The first annual Spyder Surf Expo will showcase the Surfboard Manufacturer industry’s most celebrated brands along with music and more on Saturday, August 20 on the Pier Plaza in Hermosa Beach. From 11 a.m.-5 p.m., the family festival will showcase interactive booths, with the industry leaders that manufacture the supplies needed to make the only thing needed to become a surfer – surfboards. Award-winning surfboard manufacturer Dennis Jarvis will be shaping surfboards on-site and participating in a live Q &A session Steve Albin from Aloha Glass-shop, a top Glassing company, will be onsite glassing surfboards and answering questions from the audience about how boards are built.

In addition, the City of Hermosa Beach will induct four new individuals into the “Surfers Walk of Fame” – Ted Robinson, Champion, Charles ‘Chip’ Post – Pioneer, Kelly Gibson – South Bay Legend and John Leininger – Cultural Legend. The honorees will join fellow inductees and surf legends Greg Noll, Dewey Weber, Hap Jacobs, Dale Velzy, Dennis Jarvis and many others who have been recognized for their achievements and contributions to the surf industry at large, as well as to the South Bay’s rich surf history for over three decades.

“As in years past, Spyder Surf is all about the industry and families getting together and having fun as we continue to celebrate surfing. This extension of our Spyder Surf Fest is designed to share the secrets of how to build a surfboard with the public and why it is important to know why American-made products are of superior quality compared to the knock-offs that are flooding the marketplace,” said Jarvis, founder, Spyder Surfboards.

Pier Plaza will also amplify the sounds of Kevin Sousa who will be hosting his record release party on the main stage, along with live painting by Ryan Greaff, Phil Roberts, HBCA, Ricky Blake and Zen Delrio; and a historical board display by California Surf Museum curated by Jim Kempton.

Starting at 6 p.m., the Surf Fest festivities will continue its long-time, official after-party tradition with at Watermans Hermosa Beach to celebrate the surf industry along with the new Surfers Hall of Fame inductees. VIP wristbands will be issued during the day at the restaurant for express entry and food and beverage discounts.
