San Diego based retailer Sun Diego Boardshops will be holding the grand finale of their AM SLAM Surf and Skate series as a unified event at Cardiff’s Seaside Reef, Saturday and Sunday, September 26-27th. The AM SLAM contest circuit is put on via a partnership with O’Neill and Volcom for surf and skate, respectively. The fourth and final event will be a Surf, Skate and Music Festival. The event will pit competitors against one another in their disciplines with an eye on the collective leader board, as winners of the last stop will accumulate double points to add to their overall standings for a chance at the grand prize purse. Via Sat will be providing a live webcast throughout the entire weekend which will be available to watch on Sundiego.com. With Cardiff’s famously picturesque Seaside Reef surf break and a custom skate course designed by Keen Ramps the event is sure to exhibit a world class display of surf and skate.
Previous AM SLAM events have been focused on surfing and skateboarding separately, with this year’s prior stops including Mission Beach, Oceanside’s Melba Bishop Skatepark, Pacific Beach Drive and Rancho Peñasqitos Skatepark. For the first time in AM SLAM’s 8 year history, surf and skate will converge along with brands spanning the action sports scene. From Volcom and O’Neill to Stance, Bones, Electric, Spy, Lost, Nixon, Dakine, Surface, Mizu, Captain Fin and over 30 more brands assembled in a vendor tent city. Local favorites Board & Brew and pie purveyors Flippin’ Pizza will be in attendance to supply food to the masses as the competitions take place. Live music from 8 bands will fill the air throughout the weekend on the mobile Red Bull Stage Bus with vendor attractions galore.
With double points for the overall leader board rewarded to those who place in the Event Four podium, the race for an overall winner is open to many. Top spots in the cumulative running (points have been collected over the previous three events) will be rewarded with a $5000 purse for both surf and skate. Winners of Sunday’s finals in surf and skate will each receive $3000, in addition to the opportunity to take home the overall top prize for their discipline. Hellaclips.com, skateboard web video aggregate, and GoPro have joined forces in producing a custom skate obstacle and exclusive prize offering of $3000 to the winner of a best trick competition, focused solely on their course feature. With the caliber of skateboarding coming out of the San Diego scene, this is sure to be a highlight of the weekend.
Sun Diego’s AM SLAM begins with surfing starting at 7:00 am on both Saturday and Sunday (26th-27th).
