The Surfrider Foundation to host its second Two Coasts: One Ocean event

Surfrider Foundation’s Two Coasts: One Ocean Events Raise Awareness for Initiatives that Protect Our Ocean, Waves and Beaches

Published: September 8, 2016 Press Release

On September 17th, the Surfrider Foundation will host its second annual Two Coasts: One Ocean bicoastal event in Malibu, CA, to celebrate Surfrider’s mission and to support its initiatives to protect the ocean, waves and beaches. This year’s Malibu host committee includes special guests Greg Long, Perry Farrell, Robert Trujillo, Tom Curren, Tori Praver and Danny Fuller, Kalani and Oleema Miller and John Moore. This year, Surfrider has partnered with Huka Entertainment to drive awareness and create one-of-kind experiences for Two Coasts: One Ocean. The evening will feature the music stylings of DJ KK (big wave surfer Keala Kennelly), a live set by The Helmets and exciting surprise artist performances.

Two Coasts: One Ocean in Malibu will help fund Surfrider’s critical efforts to reduce ocean plastic pollution and protect the California coast. Funds raised at the event will expand Surfrider’s outreach and advocacy efforts to reduce plastic pollution by educating the community about the impact of plastics on local watersheds, the beaches and the ocean. The event will also support Surfrider’s “Save Our Coast” campaign and ensure that California’s dramatic 1,100-mile coastline will remain open and protected for generations to come.

In conjunction with its Two Coasts: One Ocean event, the Surfrider Foundation will launch its nationwide “Long Live the Beach” campaign to engage the next generation of coastal defenders and ensure our coasts are protected for the future. At the event, Surfrider will debut a new short film, created to inspire people to take action and protect their favorite beach.

“Our Two Coasts: One Ocean events celebrate the incredible efforts of Surfrider’s local coastal defenders who work tirelessly to protect our ocean and beaches. Together, Surfrider’s volunteers and national experts develop innovative solutions to reduce plastic pollution and protect our iconic California coastline. This effective collaboration forwards our goal of protecting 100% of our coasts,” said Chad Nelsen, CEO of the Surfrider Foundation.

Two Coasts: One Ocean guests will gather for local food offerings from Blue Plate Restaurant Group set against a stunning natural backdrop in a private backyard in Point Dume. Specialty cocktails will complement a full bar sponsored by Finlandia Vodka. A highlight of the evening will be the live auction featuring an exciting trip to Volcom’s Pipeline house on the North Shore of Oahu, a trip to theBillabong Pipeline Masters, a luxury vacation to St. Lucia at Viceroy’s Sugar Beach Resort, and a Patagoniasponsored surf session with the Malloy brothers.
