Volume Distribution, a premium private label company specializing in apparel and accessories for action sports, announces the new Grain Photo Series by Volume premium collection. This new collection is a collaboration with top surf photographers including Aaron Checkwood, Tom Servais, Jimmy Wilson and Jerome Weightman, celebrating iconic surf breaks featured on a premium line of hats, tees and fleeces. The Grain Photo Series by Volume will be available at specialty retailers across the country.
This collection celebrates the often-overlooked contribution of photographers in surf culture, spotlighting their work and providing a platform to showcase and share the moments of magic that they capture while on their travels. The initial collection will feature iconic imagery of surf locales around the world including Tom Servias’ classic shot of the reef at Fiji’s Tavarua Island and Jimmy Wilson’s land-to-sea view of Baja Malibu racing barrels. Aaron Checkwood contributes both his floral and wave double-exposure as well as iconic juxtaposed imagery of urban San Francisco and Ocean Beach. Jerome Weightman expertly captures a compelling micro shot of crashing waves. The diverse breaks featured in this collection are beautifully photographed by these seasoned professionals and printed using a direct to garment (DTG) printer allowing the application of photo real images for an incredibly detailed look while maintaining an allover premium softness and comfort that customers demand.
Look for the ongoing series to encompass additional breaks from around the world—from South Africa and Tahiti, to the Hawaiian Islands and up and down the US Coasts.
About the Photographers:
Aaron Checkwood was born and raised in Oceanside, California. Checkwood has worked as a photographer and journalist for over 15 years with his progressive sports and travel photography published in numerous magazines around the world. He was the former photo editor of the award-winning TransWorld SURF magazine, a position he held for five years. He also served as a principal photographer for the magazine traveling around the world with some of the greatest surf athletes of this generation.
Tom Servais has captured some of modern surfing’s most memorable moments from Cory Lopez at Teahupoo to Tom Curren’s cutback at Off The Wall. He started his now legendary career in the darkroom at SURFER magazine in 1977. Twenty-five years and countless cover shots and iconic images later, Servais left the office behind and has been traveling non-stop since 1998 as one of SURFER’s top lensmen.
Jimmy Wilson is based out of St. Augustine, Florida, from where he travels extensively to Puerto Rico, the Caribbean and around the world. He was voted 2004 Eastern Surf Magazine (ESM) Photographer of the Year and his photography has been featured regularly in the pages of TransWorld SURF, Surfing, Surfer and ESM. Wilson’s youthful carefree personality comes through in his envy-inducing surf photography from beachside bikini shoots to the turquoise blue waters of the Caribbean.
Jerome Weightman was raised on the beaches of San Clemente, California with some of the most progressive athletes in the world while documenting his travel through photography and video. Living life both in front of and behind the camera gives him an uncanny talent to position himself in the right place at the right time and capture that perfect moment. Seeing things develop before they happen is one of those talents only a few know and reflects in his images with a unique composition.
The Grain Photo Series by Volume releases August 2017 and is available at your local surf shop and at volumedistribution.com.
