SPY is happy to announce that urban and park technician, Zak Hale, has locked into their program as the latest member of SPY’s growing snow team. Zak came up through the ranks riding the world-class terrain at SoCal’s Big Bear Mountain and will be backing the SPY Happy Lens™ as he returns to his home resort for Hot Dawgz & Hand Rails on September 23rd.
Zak’s notable style imposes technical fluidity into sketchy scenarios. A sponsored rider since the ripe age of nine, Zak’s hefty resume includes notable video parts with Videograss and the Lick The Cat crew that showcase his effortless assaults on volatile terrain.
“SPY is based in SoCal, so coming from Bear, it’s always been like a hometown brand for me. Now that I’m based in SLC and chasing storms throughout the winter, I’m stoked to be a part of an eyewear brand that can handle both the harshest conditions and the California sunshine. From their Happy Lens tech to their quick-change goggles and some of the next level snow stuff I can’t talk about yet, you can tell that these guys know how to make the highest quality gear and have the most fun while doing it,” says Zak.
“Zak’s style and background makes him a perfect addition to the SPY crew,” adds Andrew Thomas, SPY Marketing Manager. “SPY was born in San Diego, and Big Bear is the home mountain for many of our local friends and family. Zak and SPY both share the same laid-back attitude, and the confident, creative approach that embodies progressive snowboarding.”
Zak’s on and off-snow explorations are detailed via his Instagram account instagram.com/zakhale/. To watch Zak in action, go to https://youtu.be/-luXCZREHeA.
Zak joins SPY’s expanding roster of skiers and snowboarders, including mainstays Eric Jackson, Chris Rasman, Helen Schettini, Mike Gray, Phil Casabon, Ahmet Dadali and Wiley Miller.

About SPY:
SPY is an unconventional, fun-loving family of athletes and artists committed to creating exceptional optical products. Established in 1994, we are an independent Southern California-based company. We design products—sunglasses, goggles, and prescription frames—that take style cues from the outdoor sports community we’re engrained in, as well as the lifestyle that surrounds it. Our exclusive Happy Lens technology is the only lens on the market which harnesses the beneficial aspects of long-wave blue light, while offering protection from short-wave blue light known to damage the eyes. The Happy Lens name comes from independent studies which have shown that long-wave blue light can positively affect a person’s mood and alertness. To learn more about SPY, go to www.spyoptic.com.
