In time for the holidays, it’s time to start asking the important questions. Where do we come from? What is the meaning of life? What does Db stand for? Yes, really. Although we can’t really answer the first two. We thought we’d give some clarity to the latter. It’s just Db.
“We love what you guys are doing, but what does Db actually mean?”. We decided it was about time we answered the question we get from every new agency or partner who approaches us. “It’s funny because if we look at many of the brands we all use every day, it’s hard to know what any of their names mean. Instead, it’s more about what their name stands for. Strava? No clue what it means, but we know it stands for running clubs with friends, pushing yourself for a PB, and earning Kudos. Apple? I guess it was inspired by clean and crisp design? But it means thinking differently.
“There is an incessant desire to find a deeper meaning in everything. We’ve played with various monikers, titles, and nicknames, but ultimately, we always come back to it’s less about what we are called and more about what we believe in. And, we stand for the belief that if we go out into the world, we come back as better people.
“We love making films and we love brand campaigns – it’s the time of year when we get to indulge. In the lead-up to each, we take inspiration from different cues; in holiday ‘24 and “Keep dreaming differently”, there was a nod to Planes, Trains and Automobiles. This year, we are inspired by the opening scene of National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Nothing screams the holidays more than a road trip with friends and family, usually across beautiful landscapes.” – Jonathan Weaver, Chief Marketing Officer at Db.
