Born in San Francisco, California in 1986, Dockers® quickly became the authority on all things khaki, bringing casual style to the workplace and beyond. In fact, it was Dockers® who invented the first ever “Casual Friday,” revolutionizing the dress code for the modern office. Today, in celebration of its 35th anniversary, Dockers® is once again revolutionizing the way people approach casual style — this time by embracing the laid back, effortless cool of its native state roots — alongside fellow Californians/surfers Selema Masekela and Ryan Harris.
The move towards a more California-inspired aesthetic is a way for Dockers® to embrace its rich history, while also moving forward in a more contemporary, sustainably-focused mindset; one that’s deeply grounded in the mix of outdoor adventure, laid back coastal vibes, and easy business casual that California style is famous for. To kick off this new direction, and to celebrate its 35th anniversary, Dockers® has tapped Selema Masekela (host, adventurer, entrepreneur, philanthropist, co-founder of 1 Planet One People) and Ryan Harris (eco-friendly surfboard shaper, founder of Earth Technologies, co-founder of 1 Planet One People) — two Californians and surf industry veterans who perfectly embody the diverse, sustainability-minded, and stylish vibe of the Golden State — for a special new campaign.
Photographed and captured in and around coastal Los Angeles, the campaign follows Masekela and Harris as they traverse a typically sun-soaked California day — where work mixes with play and where creativity never strays too far from surf, sea, and sand. From morning waves, to midday meetings, to a stint in the shaping bay, it illustrates a modern approach to work and life that never looks out of place in a pair of Dockers®. And, perhaps most importantly, always puts emphasis on diversity, inclusivity, and sustainability.
Selema Masekela and Ryan Harris are two Californians who perfectly represent this spirit. Last year, Masekela — a long time Surfrider Foundation ambassador, and Harris — founder of Earth Technologies, an eco-conscious surfboard manufacturer using renewable and recycled materials, teamed up with surfers Hunter Jones and Danielle Black Lyons to create 1 Planet One People, a collective designed to support climate action and social equality. Their mission is to help foster diversity, inclusivity, and eco-conscious practices in surfing and throughout the world.
It’s the perfect blend of joy, style, and social and environmental responsibility that are pillars of Dockers® brand, and represents the best of the California lifestyle. Thirty-five years ago, Dockers® brought Casual Friday into the world. Today, it provides stylish, innovative, sustainable casual-wear for all lifestyles — no matter who you are and where you live, everyday.

About Ryan Harris — Eco-friendly surfboard shaper, founder of Earth Technologies
Eco-friendly surfboard shaper and entrepreneur, Ryan is a popular figure in the South Bay surf scene. He is the founder of Earth Technologies, an award winning ocean sports manufacturer that produces environmentally friendly surfboards, stand-up paddle boards, and foil boards. Earth Tech uses advanced renewable and recycled materials—like Entropy Resin’s bio-epoxy resin instead of polyester resin, plant-based reinforcement materials, and recycled EPS foam board blanks—to eliminate the typical waste that comes from surfboard manufacturing. In 2018, Ryan launched the Zero Waste Initiative, officially making Earth Technologies the world’s first zero waste surfboard manufacturer, a move that he hopes will one day help radically transform the surf industry.
