Finisterre is proud to introduce an innovative closed-loop textile recycling project in collaboration with ‘iinouiio’, part of the Camira Group led by textile recycling expert Dr. John Parkinson. This initiative reinforces Finisterre’s commitment to reducing their impact through circular design principles – actively considering disassembly, recyclability and end-of-life solutions throughout the design process.
The fashion industry generates over 92 million tonnes of textile waste annually. While Finisterre is making strides to transition their supply chain to regenerative and organic fibres, recycling post-consumer waste remains a major challenge. This is why they’ve teamed up with Dr. John and their partners at Reskinned to address this issue and minimise waste. The project’s goal is straightforward but ambitious: to transform end-of-life Finisterre wool products into new, high-quality yarn here in the UK.
Dr. John Parkinson, a textile recycling expert based in Yorkshire, has been pioneering this work since 1977. Due to the shorter lengths of the fibres involved, it can be complex to recycle wool and is often necessary to blend it with longer virgin wool fibres. Using his extensive experience, Dr. Jonn Parkinson has developed methods to recycle wool garments into yarn from both knitted and woven waste streams, creating closed loop production cycle within the knitwear industry.
Since 2021, Finisterre have operated a takeback scheme in partnership with Reskinned, storing our end-of-life knitwear until a responsible solution for recycling the materials could be found. We’re proud to now be using those old knits, as each piece in the capsule is made from 80% pre-consumer recycled wool, and 20% post-consumer recycled wool – including 5% Finisterre feedstock from the knitwear stored with Reskinned.
The ‘Revive’ knitwear capsule includes:
- The Dr. John Revive Jumper ($190): A reimagined staple knit with versatile detailing, designed for both urban and coastal adventures. Available in both a men’s and women’s cut.
- The Dr. John Revive Beanie ($58): A functional, stylish beanie suited for both the coast and city, crafted from warm, recycled wool.
Dr. Parkinson shares his perspective: “Finisterre may still be navigating how to adjust working procedures for reclaimed materials, but what stands out is their openness to listen and figure it out. Working with smaller brands has been more fulfilling than collaborating with the ‘giants,’ as they truly value UK manufacturing and have a decision-making process that aligns with how we work at iinouiio. I’m hopeful this project will inspire greater collaboration, helping turn what is often considered waste into valuable resources that can be reborn as new products.”
This initiative is about more than just recycling; it’s about redefining the entire lifecycle of our products. With textile waste reaching crisis levels globally, finding ways to extract value from end-of-life garments is crucial. Through our partnership with pioneers like Dr. John and iinouiio, we’re not just reducing waste, we’re innovating for a future where nothing is wasted, and everything has potential.
Finisterre’s Design Manager, Rose Savidge, shares: “This collection represents a step toward a truly circular future for Finisterre. It’s innovative, scalable, and reflects our commitment to driving change through responsible design.”
The Dr. John Revive capsule will be available exclusively via finisterre.com and in select stores on November 21, 2025.
Prices start from $58 for the beanie to $190 for the knit jumper.

ABOUT DR JOHN
IINOUIIO (acronym: it is never over until it is over), part of the Camire Group, was founded in 2019 by John Parkinson and his wife, Linda, whose family heritage lies in the ‘shoddy and mungo trade’. With more than 40 years’ experience in wool and cashmere recycling, iinouiio is the UK’s leading wool recycler with unique knowledge in mechanical recycling methods that date back to the 1800s. In 2021, IINOUIIO was awarded funding from the Waste Resources Action Programme (WRAP) to purchase a new textile recycling facility. In 2022, iinouiio became part of the Camira Group, expanding its textile circularity capabilities and facilitating the development of new products made from Camira’s own waste. Camira designs and manufacturers textiles for every space and sector; from commercial and residential, to public transport, including bus, coach and rail. This move enabled iinouiio to offer a manufacturing service to fashion brands and textile manufacturers to help them convert what might seem to be ‘unusable materials’ into beautiful new yarns and fabrics to start a new life, all over again.
