Firewire Surfboards announces today the release of the MACHADOCADO, the all-new signature surfboard model from Pipe Master, free surfer, and world-class shaper Rob Machado, available today at authorized, premium retail locations and online globally.
Designed to pair perfectly with Rob’s newly designed MACHADO 2 + 1 Fin Set, The MACHADOCADO is crafted as a performance package to unlock fun in waves knee-high to overhead.
“Fun in all waves, every day,” remarks Rob. “The MACHADOCADO has the short and wide outline you need to gather speed in weak waves, but the combination of the thinned-out tail and the 2 + 1 Fin Set enables hold and control in good waves. It’s a balance.”
On a continuous mission to create the perfect hybrid, Rob has long discussed the spectrum between performance surfboards and fish designs, constantly seeking a midpoint that mixes the high-performance qualities of a shortboard with the ease of use traditionally found in a fish.
This most recent iteration of his ongoing design mission was inspired by his favorite breakfast fruit, the Avocado.
“I’ve had this idea in my mind for a while about how perfect avocados just…. look,” he shares. Adding that “To my eye they just look proportionally right, and it inspired the way I designed the MACHADOCADO – really wide for its length.”
Built in Firewire Surfboards HELIUM TECHNOLOGY with an engineered blank built to control flex and response using wood in the rail from nose to tail, The MACHADOCADO is crafted for speed creation in weak waves without compromising drive and control.
The MACHADOCADO draws on a long lineage of design principles that Rob is quick to pay homage to, stating “Drawing from inspiration over the years of my surfing experience, whether it’s spending the day with Greenough and talking about his designs, or working with Al for decades; also mindful of Greenough’s and Dick Brewer’s influence on Al, I’m also friends with Gerry Lopez and I’ve been hugely inspired by Skip Frye and his fish designs I’ve ridden. I’ve gotten boards from so many good shapers; it’s all been simmering in my head and it comes through in the MACHADOCADO.”
Firewire’s DEMO DAYS schedule will provide a unique opportunity for surfers to test drive the MACHADOCADO, which will eventually make its way into the FIREWIRE FLEETS (global premium surfboard rental program) assortments in the future.
