Firewire Surfboards is thrilled to announce the launch of the Dominator Pro, the latest signature model from world-class shaper Dan Mann, released under his Mannkine label. An evolution of a Firewire classic, the Dominator Pro is built in Helium Technology, Firewire’s most popular and lightweight construction, and laminated with eco-friendly Bio Resin for unmatched responsiveness and durability. The Dominator Pro is now available at premium authorized retailers and online worldwide.
“This is the shortboard that fans of the Dominator have been asking me to build for years,” says Mann. “I designed it for surfers who’ve progressed their skill set and want a more performance-focused version of the Dominator 2.0, or those looking for a more refined board for surf trips or good days at home. It can be ridden as a quad or a thruster. I prefer it as a quad, but the Dominator Pro performs great as a thruster as well.”
The original Dominator was created as an all-around shortboard suited to a wide range of conditions. Its successor, the Dominator 2.0, launched in 2018, retained the core characteristics of the original while offering subtle performance upgrades.
The Dominator Pro was developed with feedback from team riders to maximize performance in average to better waves. Its rocker remains true to the style of the original Dominator but with a moderate increase in curve from nose to tail. The concave configuration closely matches the Dominator 2.0, with slightly more single concave under the front foot, flowing into a double-barrel concave through the fins and transitioning to a vee out the tail.
Constructed in Firewire’s Helium Technology, the Dominator Pro is engineered for speed and responsiveness. It features a lightweight 1.0 lb EPS foam core, with wood rails that control flex and enhance performance. The deck includes a layer of 4oz E-Glass topped with a high-density composite skin and an additional 4oz E-Glass layer. The bottom is reinforced with dual 4oz E-Glass layers, all laminated with bio resin for maximum strength and reduced environmental impact.
The Dominator Pro is a true performance all-rounder, but it really shines in chest-high and above surf. It’s designed to sit tight in the pocket and excel in punchy waves with curve, from small beach breaks to head-high and overhead conditions. It comes with five fin boxes and is designed to go toe-to-toe with standard thruster shortboards. While many team riders prefer it as a thruster (like their typical competition boards), some, including Dan Mann, ride it as a quad. Recommended to pair with Firewire’s Velox Fin Set, a rake template, for the best performance.
Firewire’s Demo Days schedule will provide a unique opportunity for surfers to test drive the Dominator Pro. Eventually, it will join the Firewire Fleets, a global premium surfboard rental program.
