Firewire Surfboards is thrilled to announce the release of the Spaceship, a new high-performance shortboard model under the Slater Designs label, shaped collaboratively with Mike Woo and Kelly Slater. Designed to unlock performance, the Spaceship embodies decades of research and development by Woo, delivering a modern shape built to perform in quality conditions.
Following their previous collaboration on the Great White Twin – a board inspired by the outline of a great white shark – Woo and Slater sought to create a more traditional shortboard refined for precision, control, and flow.
First unveiled as an R&D proto in March 2024 during Slater’s standout sessions at Kirra, the Spaceship quickly became his go-to board for quality surf, from reef passes and point breaks to hollow beach breaks. It is the second model constructed using Firewire’s innovative I-Bolic 2.0 Technology, following the debut of the Neutrino by Tomo.
“This board was developed in Bali, Indonesia over the course of a few months, surfing day in and day out with Mike Woo” said Kelly Slater. “In the type of waves you’re getting barrelled and doing long carves. People might remember a clip of me from Australia – probably my most replayed clip ever – that barrel-to-cutback combination at Kirra. I think that wave more than any exemplifies what this board does well: barrels and carves.”
The Spaceship pairs with the all-new Slater Designs’ Endorfins KSR Fin Set for the best experience, Kelly prefers riding size Large in bigger waves and size Medium in smaller waves.
