Hari Mari, the premium footwear brand known for infusing color & comfort into its distinctive footwear lines, announces the debut of its new category: HM ECO. The first-of-its-kind, eco-friendly, capsule collection flip flops are made with innovative cactus leather and 100% vegan construction.

“Using cactus-based leather and recycled rubber to create our new Sonoros sandal line is something our team at Hari Mari is pretty excited about,” says Founder Jeremy Stewart. “It echoes our brand’s long-standing commitment towards using responsibly-sourced materials in our footwear. The Sonoros line feels like it’s the beginning of something more meaningful in footwear – a shift toward a new path of design and sourcing that truly reflects customer values. And, since we’re based in Texas, using cactus is somewhat of a no brainer!”

The Eco-friendly, vegan leather straps and footbed are made of sustainable cactus fiber.  The innovative cactus leather is the world’s first highly sustainable and environmentally friendly organic material made of Nopal cactus, also known as the prickly pear. Cactus is a natural carbon sink and has a great CO2 sequestering  capacity. The leather only utilizes the mature leaves of the plant without damaging the plant itself, enabling repeat harvest every 6-8 months from the same plants.

In addition to this innovative faux-leather, Hari Mari worked within their supply chain to utilize old shoe sole rubber and create our first recycled rubber outsoles. The brand’s cushioned EVA midsole and arch support are also made using recycled EVA.

“We looked at every component of our Sonoros collection and figured out how to incorporate post-consumer materials without sacrificing performance,” said Stewart.

Hari Mari’s Eco line includes Sonoros for Men and Women in both Navy and Sand.

ABOUT HARI MARI

Hari Mari was founded in 2012 by Jeremy & Lila Stewart. The beginnings of the brand were born out of the Stewart’s time spent in Indonesia, where each worked on projects related to improving kids’ lives: Jeremy, making a documentary film on helping kids suffering from hunger & malnutrition in Southeast Asia; Lila, working with the American Women’s Association, volunteering for orphanages in and outside of Jakarta.

Moving back to the States and wanting to continue to help children in some capacity, the married couple recognized an unmet need for comfortable & colorful flip flops at a premium level. Paying homage to the origin of their commitment to helping kids and the trace root of the brand, “Hari” (Hahr- ee) meaning “sun” in the Indonesian Language & “Mari” (Mahr- ee) meaning “sea” in Latin, but Lila & Jeremy are more likely to tell you Hari Mari means making a great pair of flip flops supporting incredibly brave children.

Seeing a lot of companies helping children abroad, Hari Mari decided to focus its efforts in the U.S., and was stunned to discover pediatric cancer is the most fatal disease among American children, more fatal than all other childhood diseases combined.  It clicked from there. Hari Mari’s commitment now sees 1% of sales going to support kids battling cancer.  It’s called Flops Fighting Cancer.

Hari Mari’s footwear is available on HariMari.com, as well as many quality retailers, such as Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus, and J. Crew. Products range in price from $240 for its full-grain leather ‘Nokona’ Collaboration to $55 for its rubber ‘Dunes’ line. A full list of retailers can be found on HariMari.com.
