Published: January 24, 2020 Press Release

Leading Italian sportswear brand, Kappa, is excited to announce today its partnership with Snow Lodge Aspen, the Rocky Mountain oasis created by Montauk’s hotspot, The Surf Lodge. Located in the old Shlomo’s restaurant at the base of Aspen Mountain, the Snow Lodge will act as the exclusive in-store retailer for the Kappa Ski collection, which officially launches for the first time in-store in the U.S. starting today, January 24th and will go through Sunday, April 26th.

For the duration of this partnership, the Kappa Ski collection will be made available for purchase in-store at the Snow Lodge, which was previously sold only online at Kappa-USA.com. The launch of the collection coincides with the opening of the X-Games. In addition to selling product, all Snow Lodge staff members will be dressed head-to-toe in Kappa as the brand will serve as the official uniform retailer.

The Kappa Ski collection offers a wide range of jackets, pants and fleeces for both professional athletes and amateur skiers. The ski collection was developed using research highlighting specific design trends, fit, colors and patterns and was fused together with Kappa Ski System Technology. This technology introduces a ventilation system that allows the wearer to stay warm by controlling the body’s thermal balance while staying dry.

To commemorate the collaboration and bring awareness to the collection, Kappa and Snow Lodge Aspen will co-host a launch dinner and Apres-ski event at Aspen Mountain on Saturday, January 25th, with a special performance by EDM duo, Sofi Tukker. In addition, another dinner and Apres-ski event will be held in February during President’s Day weekend.

ABOUT KAPPA

Kappa® is one of the brands owned by BasicNet SpA, an Italian company that also owns Robe di Kappa®, Jesus Jeans®, K-Way®, Superga®, Sabelt®, Briko® and Sebago®, leading clothing, footwear and accessories brands for sport and leisure. BasicNet operates worldwide through a network of entrepreneurs who, under license, produce or distribute products with the Group’s trademarks. BasicNet provides these companies with research and development, product industrialization and global marketing services. All business processes take place solely via the internet, which makes BasicNet a “fully web integrated company”. BasicNet, based in Turin, has been listed on the Italian Stock Exchange since 1999. The Kappa brand®, specialized in technical clothing for sports, was set up in 1956 and its name came about by chance. Maglificio Calzificio Torinese, hosiery and underwear company founded in 1916, sent stores a supply of faulty socks by mistake. After replacing the goods, the company changed the packaging, adding a K stamp and the word “Kontroll” – “checked” in German – to guarantee the quality of the product. Customers begin to order “socks with a kappa”, the Italian pronunciation of K. And so the Kappa® brand was born. In 1967, Maurizio Vitale, who had inherited the family business, relaunched Maglificio Calzificio Torinese with the casual, unisex Robe di Kappa® clothing brand. In 1978, his sales and marketing director, Marco Boglione, convinced Vitale to set up a sports division: Robe di Kappa® Sport, which soon incorporated the original Kappa® trademark. In 1994, following Vitale’s untimely death and the subsequent bankruptcy of the company, Marco Boglione bought Maglificio Calzificio Torinese and its brands, Kappa®, Robe di Kappa® and Jesus Jeans® at auction. The company was renamed BasicNet and, over the years, the other brands in the portfolio were purchased. Today, Kappa® is present in 130 markets. 2016 saw the creation of the Kappa® Kontroll label dedicated to fashion and lifestyle collections.
