Mammoth Mountain announces it will host the third annual Mountain Ventures Summit, a multi-day workshop focused on building sustainable entrepreneurial ecosystems in mountain towns. The three-day “unconference” format will bring together stakeholders from both the Public and Private sectors and will focus on advancing the three pillars needed to reshape the future of mountain economies: sustainable recreation, infrastructure and community, and innovation and investment.
The 2019 Mountain Venture Summit will consist of tactical workshops from industry leaders designed to drive reliable progress towards diversifying rural mountain economies and answer the question: What will our Main Streets look like in the future?
Since its inception, Mountain Ventures Summit has worked to identify the key assets that drive entrepreneurial economies and make mountain towns attractive venues for business founders. Mammoth’s unique ecosystem is critically aligned with Mountain Venture Summits mission and this alignment is why Mountain Venture Summit has chosen Mammoth Lakes, CA as its host community for the 2019 event. “Our mission is to bring together entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, senior resort leadership, and community members to create a conversation about creating more diverse and sustainable economic centers in mountain communities,” said Marc Nager, Co-Founder of MVS.
Strategic communities, like Mammoth Lakes, work to provide the resources necessary to spur business growth: coworking space, accelerators, incubators, access to capital, angel networks, events, broadband and housing. Laying the foundation for entrepreneurship is a critical first step in driving growth and the MVS team recognizes it takes region-specific strategy and sincere collaboration between the town’s public and private stakeholders in order to take hold.
“It’s been a priority for Mammoth – both the resort and community – to reimagine the future of work within our town and the greater mountain community. We’re thrilled to welcome stakeholders from around the country at this year’s Mountain Venture Summit to continue propelling the mountain and resort community forward as a leading entrepreneurial mountain town” said Mark Brownlie, President and COO of Mammoth Resorts.
Mammoth Lakes is unlike your typical rural mountain town in that it’s prioritizing pilot programs to spur sustainable growth and innovation. Mammoth Resorts, part of Alterra Mountain Company, has recently expanded its coworking community, The Fort, which now boasts both an on mountain and downtown location and has capacity for 1,000 members. Both the town and the resort are working together to provide the resources and infrastructure needed to attract remote locals, business pioneers, and dreamers from Los Angeles to Silicon Valley year-round and make the community a viable ecosystem for businesses to thrive.
“Mammoth is a best-in-class example of a town and a resort coming together to create pilot programs that enrich the future of mountain towns. This foundational model is designed to create long-term growth through improved infrastructure, new facilities, creative programming, and building a community of stakeholders. This work is a major first step in innovating rural economies and setting the stage for sustainable economic growth,” said Scott McGuire, Co-Founder of Mountain Ventures Summit.
