As part of an increasing commitment to taking positive action on climate change and sustainability, Globe International today announced the operational commencement of new solar power arrays at its Port Melbourne Headquarters. This massive new sustainable energy investment will take the site from being 100% dirty-coal based power to fully renewable power sourced in Melbourne.
Designed and installed by Solpod, the project has a total generation capacity of 265kWp, with more than 650 commercial solar panels and is expected to generate over 342,000kWh (or 342MWh) annually – which is about 80% of the energy historically consumed by the site. Any remaining consumption on site will be offset by ‘GreenPower’, which is power completely sourced from other renewable energy sources on the grid and overseen by Government authority. The new system will offset over 366 tons of carbon in its first year of operation This arrangement includes an embedded network supplying all Globe’s neighbouring businesses, including mechanics, cafes, a barber, gym and production offices, so they will all be using 100% green electricity as well. The new embedded system will also provide individual metering for all tenancies, which will create an incentive for everyone to use power more efficiently and to reduce the overall energy consumption of the site further.
Coming soon after the announcement of the Globe Brand’s Low Velocity apparel range, featuring a new approach to more sustainable clothing, CEO Matt Hill reflected the consensus between himself and his brothers, Stephen and Peter; “Now that our Headquarters has been transitioned to fully renewable power sources, we’re fired up about getting on with many more sustainable changes in the business ahead, taking decisive action to represent the values and priorities of our staff, founders, customers and brand ethos.”
