The original boardshort company, Quiksilver, has officially released “Repeater,” a new full-length surf movie shot on location in Réunion Island, Mexico, Puerto Rico, Australia, and Ireland featuring global surf athletes Mikey Wright, Rolando Montes, Griffin Colapinto, Kael Walsh, Al Cleland Jr., Lungi Slabb, and Andy Nieblas.
“Repeater” highlights the surf experiences of key Quiksilver athletes around the world, across seasons, swells, oceans, and hemispheres. Despite the physical distance between these professional surfers, the movie powerfully conveys a shared resilience through inspiring visuals, encapsulating their collective spirit and adaptive mindset across diverse surf breaks.
The film follows the athletes’ journeys as they dig in deeper to overcome challenges in the water — technically, physically and mentally. Boasting the tagline “Eat, Sleep, Surf, Repeat,” the movie perfectly captures the adrenaline rush of full days in the water and provides viewers with a glimpse into the lives of some of the world’s top surfers. One such notable surfer and Quiksilver athlete, Griffin Colapinto, is currently one of the top-five World Championship Tour competitors. He reminisces about the unique timing of the movie: “Quiksilver’s previous film, ‘Saturn,’ came out pretty much right when I came onto the Quiksilver team, and I was really hyped on the feel and how they put that together. Hearing that they were already filming for another project soon after, I made sure to block off the only open time I had after the Margaret River Pro to go film with the crew.”
Emphasizing the routine-like nature of surfing, “Repeater” communicates what it looks like to keep surfing in regular rotation, whether riding a familiar break or something completely new. With the expertise and vast experience of Quiksilver’s athletes on full display, the film portrays surfers’ state of constant return regardless of past experiences, drawing upon muscle memory and personal drive in the water. “Filming for ‘Repeater,’ we embraced the fundamentals of core surfing, no matter the size, the swell — no hesitation,” says Quiksilver athlete and current ISA World Champion Al Cleland Jr. “We fed off each other’s energy and used every chance to just send it. From day one of the trip to the last, we never stopped. Wake up, surf, eat, sleep, repeat!”
“Releasing a movie that pushed surf culture forward was our main goal,” says Quiksilver Global VP of Marketing Bobby Gascon. “Filmmaking has always been a critical platform for surfing, documenting progression through the lens of surfing, art and music. As a follow-up to ‘Saturn,’ we’re honored to partner once again with acclaimed director Wade Carroll, who created another exceptional film that will inspire and stand the test of time as part of Quiksilver’s legacy in surfing.”
The film officially releases via YouTube on July 29, 2023. To celebrate, Quiksilver is hosting a global premiere on July 28, 2023, at the Huntington Beach International Surf Museum. Key Quiksilver athletes will be in attendance, including Griffin Colapinto, Kael Walsh, Rolando Montes and Al Cleland Jr. Regional screenings will take place in France, Portugal, the Netherlands, Israel, the United Arab Emirates and other locations.
