REI Is Closing Its Doors On Black Friday Again

REI also announces a new partnership with the University of Washington to study how the outdoors benefits health and well-being.
Published: October 23, 2018 Press Release

Dear members and friends,

For the last three years, we chose to shut our doors on America’s biggest shopping day and pay our employees to spend time outside with friends and family instead. So, chances are you were probably expecting this email.

But we’ve realized that what we started four years ago isn’t just about what we do on the day after Thanksgiving. It’s about what we do day in and day out. It’s about our routines: the ones we need and the ones we need to rethink.

That’s why this year, we’ve pulled together inspiration to help you break your routines this holiday and any day after it. We’re also announcing a new partnership with the University of Washington to study the science behind how the outdoors benefits our health and well-being. Visit REI.com/opt-outside for places to go and ideas to get you outside.

Thank you for being a part of the REI Co-op.
