Surfline Now Available For Alexa

Amazon Alexa now gives you the surf report.
Published: March 20, 2018 Press Release

Surfline is proud to announce the release of Surfline for Alexa, a skill for Amazon Alexa.

The skill, which features Surfline’s daily reports, including surf conditions, wave height, wind, tide, and water temperature data for thousands of the most popular surf spots in the world, is now available to be enabled in the USA. The skill, Surfline for Alexa, will work on any Alexa-enabled device, including the Echo Dot, Echo Spot, Echo Show, Fire TV with Alexa remote, Fire tablets, and many others.

“We are excited to bring this skill to market, and to begin exploring the myriad ways Surfline and the voice interface fit together,” said Ross Garrett, Surfline SVP of Corporate Development. “Working closely with Amazon has been great, and we’re excited to continue to evolve Surfline’s voice offerings.”

As the most trusted name in marine weather forecasting, Surfline has been helping surfers score waves since 1985 through phone, fax, web, mobile apps, wearables and now voice. Today, Surfline — which started as 976-SURF a pay-per-call service — comes full-circle to its origins in voice-based interaction.

Users can ask for a full report by saying “Alexa, ask Surfline for the surf report at Maverick’s.” Users can also request more specific things like wave height, tide, wind and water temperature as in, “Alexa, ask Surfline for the water temperature at Waikiki,” “Alexa, ask Surfline for the wind at Malibu,” or “Alexa, ask Surfline for the tide at Rockaway.”

If a user requires assistance at any time, they can say, “Alexa, help” or “Alexa, ask Surfline for help” and they will hear the voice of Surfline’s lead forecaster, and frequent guest on weather and surf competition broadcasts, Kevin Wallis, who will talk them through Surfline for Alexa.

To try it out, simply say, “Alexa, open Surfline?” to any Alexa-enabled device, or enable it here.
