Surfline is proud to announce the release of a video-enabled skill for Amazon Alexa, which streams Surfline’s global network of over 500 surf cameras.
Surfline’s new video-enabled Alexa skill, built in cooperation with Amazon, will be available in October to anyone within the USA. The skill expands on the Surfline experience, provides yet another strong benefit for Surfline Premium members, and works on any Alexa device with a screen, including the new Echo Show, Fire TV Cube, and many others.
“The addition of our cameras to Alexa is yet another benefit for our Premium members,” said Dan Corsaro, Manager of Subscription Growth for Surfline. “Debuting Surfline for Alexa is an exciting way to highlight Alexa’s unique voice-activated visual experience. With Surfline’s cams at popular surf spots like Pipeline, Lower Trestles, and Maverick’s, Surfline skill for Alexa is a must-have for any surfer or beach enthusiast.”
To use the Surfline Alexa skill from an Alexa device with a screen, users must be Surfline Premium members. Users first open Surfline — “Alexa, open Surfline” — and then link their account with Surfline by going to the Alexa app on their Android or iPhone and clicking “link account” in the home screen on the Alexa app.
Users who are not yet Surfline Premium members can sign up for a free trial of Premium here, then return to the Surfline Alexa app to link their account.
Once their accounts are linked, Surfline Premium users can ask to view cameras by saying “Alexa, ask Surfline to show me Maverick’s” or, “Alexa, ask Surfline to show me Pipeline.”
If a user requires assistance at any time, they can say, “Alexa, ask Surfline for help,” and they will hear the voice of Surfline’s Lead Forecaster, Kevin Wallis, who will talk them through the Surfline skill for Alexa.
Of course, all Alexa devices, including those without screens, will continue to feature Surfline’s daily reports, surf conditions, wave height, wind, tide, and water temperature data for thousands of the most popular surf spots in the world.
To try it out, simply say, “Alexa, open Surfline” to any Alexa device or enable it here.
