Sustainable shoe brand Cariuma and legendary LA Skate Powerhouse The Berrics announce their first, special edition three-piece sneaker collaboration. The Berrics x Catiba Pro Skate Shoe drops on Dec. 3 at www.cariuma.com and will retail for $120.
This launch follows the brand’s first-ever premier sustainable skate sneaker, The Catiba Pro Skate, that dropped in September. The body of the shoe is carefully crafted for a skater’s high-impact, active lifestyle. Beyond aesthetics and durability, the Berrics x Catiba Pro is crafted from premium natural materials such as raw rubber, organic cotton, and premium responsibly sourced suede complete with a debossed Berrics logo to create a new kind of skate shoe built for you and the planet. The clean sleek aesthetic is designed to be a new seasonless classic, built to last in both appearance and construction, even to those who are the hardest on their footwear.
Speaking from a cultural perspective Steve Berra, Co-Founder of The Berrics, envisions the future of skating and the of impact this collaboration with Cariuma “In my 34 years of skating I’ve been witness to every trend, skater, and brand. With each boom and plateau, there are new brands and faces that come along and challenge the establishment in ways that change the course of the culture. The world changes and so does what you decide to put on your feet every day. We are at a tipping point in which these small sparks of change, like the ones we’re currently witnessing, can ignite an intense new dynamic of public synergy, and what was once new, becomes old and something better takes its place. This generation is more positive, more aware, more diverse while also less tolerant of weakening institutions and the splintering of culture. They don’t want their uncle’s or older brother’s brands. So now is the time to do something people don’t expect with a brand that’s not a usual suspect but one we think embodies what is happening in the world. The Berrics CATIBA Pro not only matches the aesthetic and durability that’s important to today’s current climate, but it also represents a particular mindset we believe the world has adopted in order for it to evolve and thrive.”
Where most shoes fail in their efforts to protect your foot from wearing holes at your flick point, we’ve triple-stitched that critical area so that you never have to bring a pair of extra socks and Band-Aids out skating with you again. These shoes have a high collar, padded tongue, and internal cushion for stability around the ankle complete with memory-foam insoles that provide excellent arch support along with shock absorption and are finished with a herringbone gum sole for flexibility and excellent board feel.
About Cariuma
CARIUMA is a sustainable sneaker company founded by Fernando Porto and David Python, two prominent industry execs who put people at the center of their mission. The two bonded over their shared values of wellness-balanced employment being at the root of sustainable business practices and the passion for boardsports. After defecting from their high-status, corporate footwear roles, they decided that sustainability needed to come second only to the quality of life for every person that works around them. They felt they had a responsibility to take a stance against the wasteful practices inherent in fast fashion and that it was vital to reinvent the sneaker game. Even with all of the progress that had been made in regard to sustainability and comfort, the old-school brands that they’d previously worked for were, alternately, delivering low-quality, low-comfort sneakers that still dominated the market in an unsustainable way. Enter, CARIUMA. CARIUMA delivers future classics crafted for all-day, everyday comfort as well as longevity and an increased lifespan. CARIUMA works exclusively with ethical factories and sources only natural and recycled premium materials. All shipping impact is offset to become carbon neutral and their single-box shipping method is crafted with recycled and 100% recyclable materials. Plus, for every pair of sneakers sold, the brand plants a pair of trees in the Brazilian rainforest to directly aid reforestation and endangered species’ habitats.
