The Inertia is thrilled to announce its first-ever EVOLVE Summit on August 18th, 2018 at Playa Studios in Culver City, California.
EVOLVE is a first-of-its-kind gathering that features world premieres of powerful short films, panels that pair thought-leaders from different spheres of outdoor culture to tackle pressing topics, and world-class live music to mobilize innovators in the space as a force for good like never before.
“We developed EVOLVE with two objectives in mind,” said Zach Weisberg, founder of The Inertia. “First, we want to unite the brightest minds in surf and outdoors to host constructive conversations on important topics aimed at improving our collective future. Second, we want to honor inspiring individuals who use their platforms to make positive contributions to the culture at large.”
EVOLVE features a full day of panels that address social, environmental, political, and commercial issues in surf and outdoors with individuals on the vanguard of each topic. Confirmed speakers and honorees include:
Tulsi Gabbard, US Congresswoman (and surfer)
Tom Carroll, 2x World Champion
Gabby Reece, XPT Founder
Jeremy Jones, POW Founder
Kassia Meador, Founder Kassia+Surfer
Sal Masekela, Host and Producer
Caroline Gleich, Professional Mountaineer and Environmentalist
Greg Long, 2x Big Wave World Champion
Maricela Rosales, Latino Outdoors
Cyrus Sutton, Surfer, Filmmaker, and Activist
Chad Nelsen, Surfrider CEO
Forrest Shearer, POW Ambassador
Leah Dawson, Changing Tides Foundation Cofounder
Mark Price, Firewire CEO
Sachi Cunningham, Journalist and Filmmaker
Zach Weisberg, The Inertia Founder
Reece Pacheco, WSL Pure Executive Director
Sean Swentek, A Walk on Water
Dr. Eric Goodman, Foundation Training Founder
EVOLVE also features live performances by artists Company of Thieves and Jack Symes and the world premiere of two original short films produced by The Inertia: Alternativa and Boycott the Gunston 500. Alternativa, starring Kassia Meador, Leah Dawson, and Lola Mignot, documents three outstanding women on a trip to El Salvador who are inspiring the next generation of ocean lovers through their alternative approach to surfing and life. Boycott the Gunston 500 documents 2x World Champion Tom Carroll’s decision to boycott pro surfing in 1985 to protest apartheid in South Africa. His stand was unprecedented for a surfer at the time, and revealed the potential for influencers in our sport to use their platforms for good.
A portion of the proceeds from EVOLVE will benefit the Surfrider Foundation and Protect Our Winters, two amazing organizations fighting for the health and prosperity of sacred places on our planet. The Inertia is also excited to work with Stoke Certified to host the most sustainable gathering possible.
