Published: February 25, 2025 Press Release

Update 03/07/2025: North Face Global Brand President Caroline Brown shared the TNF’s ambitious plan to double its apparel business, double bags & equipment, and triple footwear.

The North Face, the world’s leading outdoor brand, celebrates 40 years of the iconic Mountain Jacket with an all-new collection for 2025. Since its debut in 1985, the Mountain Jacket has transcended generations, culture, and time to become an enduring icon of weather-proof innovation and creativity.

Setting the standard for expedition apparel, the original Mountain Jacket was engineered to protect climbers and skiers from the harshest conditions. The classic design debuted in 1985 and quickly became a cornerstone of alpine exploration. Through the decades, the timeless design has evolved with the best in technology and utilitarian craft – from harness-friendly pockets, to fabrications in GORE-TEX® and FUTURELIGHT™ (2020) and now in 2025, DRYVENT™ Mono.

From its climbing and expedition heritage, the Mountain Jacket became a staple within the creative community. Throughout the 2010s, the jacket’s significance only grew through innovative collaborations with Supreme, MM6 Maison Margiela, and the artist KAWS.

Editor’s note: The North Face’s recent collaboration with Copenhagen designer Cecilie Bahnsen also celebrated the Mountain Jacket, riffing on the classic with the hyper-feminine Mountain Dress.

The new 2025 Mountain Jacket collection builds on its storied legacy with advancements in protection, sustainability, and performance, offering unparalleled versatility for both mountain and city adventures.

Fronting the Mountain Jacket campaign is Griff, the BRIT Award-winning global pop sensation whose debut album “Vertigo” garnered critical acclaim in 2024. Griff’s creative ethos, bound by her candid songwriting about self-discovery and personal evolution, bolsters The North Face’s commitment to elevating emerging talent, and the Mountain Jacket’s roots in creativity.

“Just like music, it’s just as important to me to express myself through fashion and the clothes I wear. Having the opportunity to work with an iconic brand like The North Face and being a part of the global campaign for the 40th anniversary of the Mountain Jacket has been amazing.”  Griff explains

Griff is joined in the campaign by The North Face athletes: snowboarder Blake Paul, and freeride skier Dennis Ranalter.

Rooted in Alpine & Snow, sudden downpours, or urban explorations, the collection includes two standout jackets:

Mountain Jacket DRYVENT™ Mono ($250): Now crafted with a 100% recycled 2L DRYVENT™ fabric, a waterproof, seam-sealed, mono-material construction.

Mountain Jacket GORE-TEX® ($450): For the ultimate in alpine performance, featuring Gore-Tex waterproofing, pit zips, and alpine pockets.

Each jacket features signature design details, including:

  • Fully seam-sealed construction for ultimate weatherproofing
