Iconic Byron Bay clothing brand, THRILLS has furthered their commitment to sustainable fashion by proudly announcing their switch to 100% Organic Cotton for the majority of their best-selling denim styles.
From humble beginnings in 2011, THRILLS has become globally recognised for their vintage-inspired clothing alongside a passion for music and street machine culture, and now their sustainability efforts.
Tabitha McGregor, THRILLS Co-Founder and Art Director explained sustainability has always been front-of-mind and this is just the beginning for the Byron Bay-based brand.
“Since our beginning over 10 years ago, we’ve made it a priority to make quality clothing and accessories while reducing our impact on the planet and inspiring an achievable path for change,” she said.
“It’s an exciting time for us to be able to make substantial decisions within our design process allowing us to be more conscious and proactive in delivering garments that make a difference. We’re continuing to take all the steps we can both as a company and in our personal lives and we’re so excited about the progress. Though we recognise it’s a long journey ahead, the team is dedicated to lessening our footprint while also improving our day-to-day operations.”
THRILLS Design Manager, Mike Fishwick, said the switch to organic cotton was an investment the company was willing to make for the well-being of farmers, soil, and die-hard fans.
“Growing conventional cotton requires the use of enormous amounts of pesticides and fertilisers, which has a huge environmental impact and presents health risks for those working around it,” he said.
“While the switch to organic cotton comes at an extra cost, it was an investment we were willing to make due to the massive environmental and human advantages.”
“We’re proud to have organic cotton as part of our ever-growing ‘Sustainable Focus’ fabric family alongside Hemp, Linen, Recycled Cotton and Ramie,” Mike said. “We’ve also worked hard as a design team to ensure each style is a true representation of the high quality we’re known for.”
